FAMILY FIRST: Re-entering the workforce after stay-at-home life
I am constantly amazed by the never-ending variations of the ways families "get by." Most of us struggle on a daily basis to balance children, homes, finances and jobs. Whether it's household chores, family vacations or just day-to-day survival, I don't know anyone who has it figured out.

Brushy Creek a community active in Cub and Girl Scouting
How many ways are there to learn? A father and his son are bent over a Cub Scout project, busy laughing and learning together as they construct a pinewood derby race car. A Girl Scout leader and a group of young girls are sharing a quiet moment in the woods, building a camp fire and preparing for a campout in the wilderness. Families bond, laughing and learning together as they actively participate in organizations such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H groups and Campfire Kids.

FAMILY FIRST: Books? Check. Shoes? Check. Mom in tizzy? Nope.
Summer vacation is over. The kids are back in school. And while our schedules instantly fill up with activities, meetings and practices, there's something reassuring about the chaotic routine of the school year.

FAMILY FIRST: Hats off to booster clubs and PTAs selling hats, et al
When it come to the "haves" and the "have-nots" or donating to a charity, I like to think that food pantries and inner-city youth organizations top my list of deserving causes. Lately, however, my perspective has warped a bit, and I'm struggling to get a handle on it.

Sun setting on another summer, with school off in the distance
Families everywhere are ending their happy summer break and returning to the structure of school routine. Schedules in-volve juggling the school day with Scouts, music lessons, clubs, sports activities, homework, and play. And you can set your watch by the time of day you see large numbers of children walking and biking down local streets. Drive carefully as you drive through local school zones!
