| A group approach to training Gym focuses on matching trainers to clients When a Round Rock couple decided to open a gym last year, they wanted the gym to be different than the typical gym offerings such as Gold's Gym and 24-Hour Fitness.
Fitness Training Studios opened off Sam Bass Road in Round Rock Oct. 15. The studio offers a unique concept in working out and fitness training by matching clients with certified personal trainers who have undergone an interview process and who specialize in certain areas of expertise. Trainers may bring their clients to use weights, abdominal stability balls and cardio spinning bikes equipped with video training and heart monitors, said Fitness Training Studios co-owner Avery Williamson.
"We have a local family and friend focus here," Williamson said. "In here, you'll either know a neighbor or meet a new neighbor and you'll be provided with a new and healthy lifestyle."
Trainers who choose to bring clients to Fitness Training Studios receive a pretty nice commission, Avery Williamson said. Williamson only takes $15 of the fees the trainers charge their clients. The trainer gets to keep the rest of what they earn, Williamson said.
People may also pay a monthly fee to work out at the gym. Memberships to Fitness Training Studios are $50 a month for an individual and $75 for families wanting to use the services.
To work out at Fitness Training Studios, students must be over age 16, Williamson said. The gym is open 24 hours a day and seven days a week but it is not staffed 24/7, Williamson said.
Williamson and his wife, Trish, chose to open Fitness Training Studios because they both (especially Trish) have a passion for fitness. Trish Williamson teaches Power Fit circuit training and boot camp classes Tuesday and Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the studio. Cost of participation in the boot camp classes is $89 a month for eight sessions.
What makes Fitness Training Studios' boot camps unique are that they are indoors, Trish Williamson said.
In the future, they will add an extra hour and a half long boot camp class on Saturday, she said.
Fitness Training Studios also offers customized group training programs for different fitness levels.
The 3,000-square-foot Fitness Training Studios was selected as the site for a photo shoot in May, showcasing the winners of the 2009 International Natural Bodybuilding Federation Southwestern Natural Championships, said Marketing Uncorked Director Sandy Hancock. The championships took place at the Texas School for the Deaf in south Austin.
On Aug. 16, Fitness Training Studios, at 2111 Sam Bass Road, Suite A100, also hosted another photo shoot, this time highlighting the winners of the 2009 Texas Fit Model Search. The Texas Fit Model Search took place at the Palmer Events Center in Austin Aug. 15. One of the sponsors of this year's Texas Fit Model Search was Fitness Training Studios trainer and World Natural Bodybuilding Federation bodybuilder David Lee Nall.
"There is tons of flexibility to here and the equipment here to train on is great," Nall said. "Avery supports our events and supports them by having booths at the events or sponsoring photo shoots. The emphasis of training here for competitions is on achieving results through natural body building and not using steroids."
